IELTS Reading: Improving Reading Score | Part 2



In this article, we are going to discuss more on how to improve reading score in IELTS. Besides applying skimming and scanning as the strategies, you can do some actions such as:

  1. Reading as much as possible
What is meant by reading as much as possible is reading any kinds of reading material, not just the practice test. Still, the reading materials that you read are still related to topics of reading IELTS. You can take reading materials from magazines or newspaper. Any source will give no different effect. As long as you can read, it means that you are running on a right track. To make this activity lighter to you, you can pick the topics that you are interested it. The more you like it, the more articles you are going to read.
Why is this step important to do? Well, this activity will surely improve your confidence. If you are not used to read English material, you will be panic whenever you find some words that you don’t know the meaning of. When you are panic, you will not apply any of strategies that we have discussed previously (skimming and scanning) then tend to give up on the question. That is why, by reading more reading materials, at least you can improve your confidence that is strongly needed in IELTS.

  1. Having a good time management.
Time becomes an essential part in IELTS as you have to complete this section in a very limited time. That is why you need to manage on the time to look at the text before answering the questions, the time to spend on each question, each group of questions, and on each text. Besides, you need to think about leaving time at the end to look back at the unanswered questions.

  1. Giving focus on the question.
One simple thing to do here is you need to do rechecking before answering the question. So, always go back and look at the questions before writing the answer. By applying this step, you will avoid yourself for taking some careless errors that commonly found, unmatched question-answer.
