There are many test takers who find that the time provided for
finishing this section is not enough. Sixty minutes runs so quickly so
that test taker often has no ability to finish all questions in reading
section.
Well, in reading IELTS, test taker does not read for
pleasure. It is not same as reading a novel, a self-motivating book, or
reading some interesting titles in a café while hanging out. It should
be remembered that test taker does not in a position for taking all
detailed information from the book that he or she reads. Test taker has
to realize that he or she reads a passage to answer some general
information and specific questions regarding the passage.
That is
why, memorizing every single thing from the passage is not necessary to
do. Test taker should know what he or she is looking for and where to
find it. Test taker can use ‘skimming and scanning’ to get the location
of the answers in the passage faster.
Then, test taker needs to
manage his or her time very well. There is an opinion saying that test
taker should not spend more than a minute for a single answer.
Personally, I do not force myself as well to strictly spend only one
minute to answer a question. The point is keep reminding ourselves that
we may not spend too much time for a question. Remember that time
provided is only sixty minutes for answering forty questions from three
different passages.
In reading IELTS, there is no time given for
copying the answer just like in listening session. Therefore, it is
suggested for test taker to use a real answer sheet every time he or she
practices on this section. By doing this, test taker will be trained on
the way to fill out the answer sheet. Besides, test taker also gets
some practices in avoiding mistakes that others usually do. Again, the
answers must be copied carefully so that there will be no mistakes found
because of copying error.
