Question 8-11
Using a NUMBER or NO MORE THAN THREE
WORDS, answer the following questions. Write your answer in boxes 8-11 on your
answer sheet.
8. What percentage of earth
buildings in New Zealand were constructed in the past 5 years?
9. Name ONE building material that
contains chemical preservatives.
10. Name the feature of earth houses
that enables them to keep temperatures low in summer.
From the instruction above, you know that you are
not allowed to give more than three words as the answer. It means you can give
one, two, or three words as your answer. You may also use number. Now, let us
see question number 8. You can get ‘percentage’ and ‘New Zealand’ as your
keywords. Skim the following passage with those keywords.
Now, you have got the location for the answer of
question 8, in paragraph two. As the answer, you can write “thirty five
percent” or write the number “35%”. These two kinds of answer do not break the
rule stated in the instruction. Therefore, you are free to choose one of them.
Then, next, skim the next paragraph. Remember that
the questions are given based on its chronological order. That is why you do
not need to go to the same part or previous one. For number 9, you can find the
answer in paragraph 3 at the last line. The sentence states, “This cannot be
said for commercially solid timber and brick products”. Be careful with it.
Remember that you are only asked to mention one material. So, instead of
picking these two answers, you can choose one. Again, you are free to choose
one of it.
Next thing to do is keep skimming the next
paragraph. The answer for question 10 can be found in paragraph 4. It is stated
in the first sentence of this paragraph. Therefore, you get the phrase of
“passive solar capacity” as the answer.
For question number 11, simply get the answer from
paragraph 8. It is mentioned that there are some substances that can lengthen
the life of earth as a building material. They are cement, sand, straw, and
even cow dung. You can take two of them as the answer as it is requested.
