TOEFL-iBT or IELTS?


This model discusses diversities between TOEFL-iBT and IELTS popped up on the day test. It begins by stating the items which can be seen from the TOEFL-iBT, and next IELTS as the following discussion. TOEFL-iBT

Breaking down into 4 distinct sections called the TOEFL-iBT, a registered trademark of Educational Testing Service, requires students to show their ability to use Academic English such as listening to lectures on unfamiliar topics, orally paraphrasing and integrating information that they have just read and listened to, and writing a well-organized essay with detailed examples, correct grammar, and varied vocabulary. The structure of the test follow:



Reading section consists of 3 or 5 passages that are approximately 700-900 words. Each passage will be managed with 12 to 14 multiple-choice questions about the content of the passage. You will spend 60 to 100 minutes to complete the entire section.



Listening section will have 60 to 90 minutes to complete involving six to nine audio-sections. Each of which are three to five minutes long, and the practical points will be either lecturing or social language. After focusing on this part, it will be devoted by five to six multiple-choice questions (approximately).


Speaking section exhibits six speaking tasks. Prompts given on the computer screen with no reading and listening passages are on Speaking tasks 1 & 2, called the Independent Speaking. These sections will have 15 seconds to prepare and 45 seconds to talk about a place, a person or an object which is familiar with you. Next, the Integrated Speaking sections, representing reading and listening passages, discuss Campus Life on speaking 3 & 5 with 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to speak.  What’s more, the academic topics on speaking 4 & 6 will come to you with 20 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to explain.



Writing Section typifies 2 writing assignments. As the speaking sections, Writing Question 1 is followed by Integrated skills. You will have 3 minutes to read and 20 minutes to write with 250 words (approximately). Thereafter, you will  read cue and write an essay with roughly 300 words. This tract will take you 30 minutes, Writing Question 2.



IELTS, International English Language Testing System, consists of four modules: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing and takes two hours and 45 minutes to complete.   Here are IELTS details



One Listening module, consisting of 40 questions with approximately 30 minutes in total, includes multiple choice, short-answer questions, completion and matching tasks, and diagram labeling. The recording is played only once, but you are allowed to read the questions beforehand. You will be given an extra ten minutes at the end of the test to transfer your answer onto the answer sheet. You should be error-free both spelling and grammar for a score on the IELTS nine-band scale.



One Reading module is broken down into two modules: either Academic or General Training Reading. All types include multiple choice, short-answer questions, completion and matching tasks, and True/False/Not Given. The passages are taken from magazines, journals, books and newspapers, and the topics are of general interest. You must write your answer onto the answer sheet with error-free, but there is no extra time for this. You will have 40 minutes to complete this module.



One Writing module includes 2 tasks with 60 minutes to complete. In task 1, If you are willing to take the General IELTS Exam, then you must write a letter. The letter designed depends on the prompt given: formal, semi formal, or informal style. On contrary, the Academic Exam gives you a diagram or table of some kind, and you have to consider a set of report writing with 150 words. Task 1 will have 20 minutes to complete including plan, write, and revise. Next, In task 2, you are given prompt dealing with a current issue, and you should present and justify argument onto an essay with 250 words. To Plan, write, and revise your essay in 40 minutes are you recommended.



One Speaking module comes from one-to-one interview broken down into three parts. In the Part 1 (4-5 minutes), the examiner will ask a number of general questions: Introduce yourself, say where you come from, and talk about such topics as your family or home, your country or city, your job or studies, your interests or hobbies. Next, in the Part 2, you are given a card outlining particular topic with one minute to prepare (making note) if you wish. in this part, you will have 3-4 minutes to complete. In the last part, You have two-way discussion (4-5 minutes) with the examiner asking questions linked to the part 2.



IELTS can be taken at test centres in over 100 countries. Test dates are fixed, and the test are normally available throughout the year in most areas. Further information and a list of local centres is available on the IELTS website.



3 simple steps to rehabilitate an English learner as a great test taker.

1. Perfect practice = Perfect result.

Go get practicing your academic skills with some friends in English communities created. You may find a test-prep trainer with whom you cope as well. Rehearsing this activity regularly like you are under examination helps you to heal the strict condition when real tests come out.



2. Recall what you have learnt.

Because you are not allowed to revise what you have done and were not given the result of your real tests, you should be able to make everything  run well. It is easy to do  if you have ‘the quality time’ reciting your work, such as correcting your essay, pronunciation, intonation, and timing speed-reading skill.



3. Measure your progress with a scorecard.

How do you know your progress if you don’t ‘watch’ them? You can induce a scorecard to monitor how far you have done. Scale your advance every time you have completed the test preparation. The main objective of scaling is to recognize your weakness. Then size them up so you can have the best result.



As always, the tests has changed, so preparation for them must change, too. As a candidate who needs score higher, you should run the latest approach to test preparation.
